October 2016

New recording of Loneliness in a Beautiful Place for string orchestra: score and recording.

Arranged for string orchestra and premiered by O’Malley conducting USC Thornton Musicians at Alfred Newman Recital Hall.

August 2016

O’Malley selected as a winner of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra’s call for score.

June 2016

O’Malley named composition fellow for the inaugural season of the Wyoming Festival – New Music in the Mountains in Grand Teton National Park.

I have just completed a small string quartet for this new festival, which will be premiered in the beginning of August. The work is entitled Loneliness in a Beautiful Place, and will be played by musicians from the Chattanooga Symphony.

Chamber arrangement of Austin Wintory’s score for Journey.

Performances by Fifth House Ensemble at MAGFest and in Chicago
I am arranging Wintory’s Grammy-nominated score from the 2012 video game Journey for a 12 piece chamber ensemble. “Journey Live” will have its premier performances by Chicago’s Fifth House Ensemble at the end of February. This concert features an interactive performance, where the music will follow a live game-player’s choices on the screen.

Symphonic Poem “Even in Paradise…”  wins The American Prize (1st place) for orchestral music:

“Even in Paradise” selected for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Composer Institute.

Symphonic Poem “Even in Paradise…”  has been selected for the MSO’s young composer program as part of a national competition, and will be performed along with other new works, conducted by Steven Schick. Performance will be on Nov. 4th, at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

“Even in Paradise” selected for the American Composers Orchestra Earshot readings with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra

Symphonic Poem “Even in Paradise…”  will be performed by the Columbus Symphony, conducted by Rossen Milanov, on October 29th. The concert features three other works by young composers selected by a national competition.

Patrick O’Malley awarded a fellowship to the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s National Composers Intensive

Myself and 9 other composers have been selected to compose new works for LA-based ensemble wild Up. Our pieces will be rehearsed and recorded at the LA Phil’s facilities at Disney Hall, and we will participate in masterclasses/lectures given by Steve Reich, Steven Mackey, Caroline Shaw, Michael Gordan, and Julia Wolfe.
